CHART OF THE DAY: Newspaper Billions Become Craigslist Millions Here we have the fundamental problem of capital efficiency and in fact I would argue the problem of our lifetime. That is how do we employ people? Businesses that are extraordinarily capital efficient like Craigslist happily take digital pennies as it pays well for those few employees needed to run the operation. Problem is what is going to happen to our middle class. I think the answer is a massive growth of small business on platforms like Etsy, Foodzie and more. But that massive growth of business, built on top of highly efficient marketing infrastructures, means shockingly intense Schumpeter creative destruction. Schumpeter run wild means that our educational system needs to reform itself into an institution that supports failure and constant reinvention. This is why I think the most important person in the Obama administration is Arne Duncan. Arne must make headway in exploding the model of education so that we can serve the niche.
