Thinking about innovation and business models

Thought provoking stuff from JP Rangaswami regarding innovating for progress rather than for profit. Poses some interesting questions that flow out of the question of why the mythic “polypill” has not been created to help fend off heart disease.

His end conclusion is that the “polypill” is a combination of off patent drugs that would not allow for competitive advantage to be built in, therefore making the risk of development fall outside what was tolerable for a capitalist enterprise.

Those of us building businesses based on Internet enabled data transfer face these same daunting questions, the answers to which I think will only emerge through doing.

What is not good is delaying progress for the sake of profit, the world is too competitive to deny experimentation and failure.
